27 Dec 2008 5:39 PM

MELBOURNE, Dec 27 AAP - The father of a young Victorian man stabbed in the head with a screwdriver has told how he watched the life drain out of his son.

Nineteen-year-old Afram Kodi has died after being stabbed at a house party in Melbourne's north on Boxing Day.

Police and paramedics were called to the Reservoir house shortly after 10.40pm (AEDT) on Friday.

The young man was treated at the scene before being rushed to the Royal Melbourne Hospital but he died on Saturday afternoon.

Afram's father Sudan on Saturday described watching the life drain slowly from his son, but said he wasn't angry with the way he died.

"I see my son, his eyes closing, just breathing," Mr Kodi said.

"All the boys (are) Sudanese. Life is very difficult."

Family member Mekyl Keira said he would miss his cousin.

"I love him so much. We're going to miss him, but that is life."

Twenty-year-old Stephen Tito, of Reservoir, has been charged with one count of attempted murder but a police spokeswoman said that could be upgraded.

"Homicide detectives are investigating the incident and charges are expected to be upgraded," Sergeant Creina O'Grady said.

Tito has been remanded in custody to appear before Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Monday.
