Qld: Man dies in two-car smash

BRISBANE, Dec 29 AAP - Queensland's holiday road toll rose to eight with the death of a man near Duaringa, west of Rockhampton, in central Queensland.
Police said two cars collided on a sweeping, right-hand bend of the Capricorn Highway at Bahaunia Creek at about 3.45pm (AEST) on Sunday, causing one car to flip and slide on its roof before righting itself.
The 49-year-old female driver and sole occupant suffered non-life-threatening head injuries but was taken to Rockhampton Base Hospital.
The driver of the second vehicle suffered serious arm and abdominal injuries and was airlifted to Rockhampton Base Hospital, where he later died.
A 33-year-old front-seat female passenger escaped with minor injuries, as did a three-year-old girl in the back seat.
A one-year-old girl who was also in the back seat was unharmed.
Police are investigating the incident.
