SYDNEY, Dec 30 AAP - A man wanted for an armed break-in has been arrested on the NSW north coast following a police chase through a number of paddocks.

The 40-year-old was arrested during what police describe as a "high-risk" operation in South Grafton, for which specialist police officers were called up from Sydney, 600 kilometres away.

Police had been wanting to speak with the man in relation to an aggravated break and enter at Cams Wharf, at Lake Macquarie on the central coast, on December 18, during which a shotgun was allegedly produced.

The man was also wanted on four outstanding warrants, police said.

Acting on information received, police went to a caravan park in South Grafton on December 26, but were unable to arrest the man.

On Monday police received information that the man was at a home on Bennetts Road, South Grafton, and called up Tactical Operations Unit officers from Sydney on Monday night.

At 5am (AEDT) on Tuesday police established a perimeter around the home.

A man left the house about an hour later and was chased by police on motorbikes through a number of paddocks before being arrested.

During a search, police found more than $2,500 in cash in his possession.

The man was in police custody at Grafton Police Station on Tuesday morning.
