SYDNEY, Dec 30 AAP - An accountant has been charged with fraud after a business owner in Sydney's inner-west was fleeced of almost $300,000.
Police allege the owner of a food market in Leichhardt was fleeced of $282,799 in August.
The owner allegedly gave the money to the accountant, who had told him that he (the owner) was required to pay off a government debt.
Instead, the cheque was deposited in a private company account.
A 48-year-old man from Greenacre was arrested on Monday and charged with fraudulent misappropriation of valuable securities.
He was refused bail and was due to face Central Local Court later on Tuesday.
