30 Dec 2008 4:51 AM
An Australian human rights activist in the Gaza Strip says a 55-year-old grandmother was one of the innocent victims killed in the first round of Israeli bombings.
Thirty-five-year-old SHARON LOCK .. from the Gold Coast hinterland .. says she spent the night with the dead woman's family .. comprised of women and children under the age of five .. under bombardment from Israel.
Ms LOCK .. who is in Gaza as a volunteer of the International Solidarity Movement .. says basic foodstuffs are in very short supply .. and hospitals already short of basic supplies are overrun with injured people.
She's called for Western economic sanctions .. similar to those used against South Africa to end apartheid .. be imposed on Israel.
Israel has bombed Gaza for a third day in an all-out war on Hamas that's killed at least 345 people and wounded more than 15-hundred others.
