SYDNEY, Jan 2 AAP - A man who allegedly fired more than 100 shots into the air at a suburban Sydney home on New Year's Eve has been charged with firearms offences.
Police went to Feodore Drive at Cecil Hills, in Sydney's west, about 8pm (AEDT) on Wednesday, after local residents reported hearing gunshots.
"Officers will allege when they entered the yard a man was re-loading a handgun, and more than 100 spent shell casings were scattered nearby," police said in a statement.
A search of the property allegedly found more guns and ammunition.
The 50-year-old man was arrested and charged with discharging a firearm in a public place and using a firearm under the influence of alcohol.
He is due to face Liverpool Local Court on January 23.
