Police have revealed a bus driver ran a red light at a level-crossing in far north Queensland .. putting the lives of 12 passengers in danger .. only a day after a train crashed into a garbage truck.

Father of two .. TERRY BROWN .. died at a level-crossing near Innisfail when the garbage truck he was driving on New Years Day collided with a passenger train.

The crossing only had a warning sign,

But police say a bus driver at Babinda sped through a level-crossing with red warning lights on yesterday afternoon .. and police commissioner IAN STEWART says the driver risked the lives of 12 passengers and his own.

Mr STEWART says the bus driver was given a ticket for going through a operating red light at the crossing.

Meanwhile .. Queensland Rail is aiming to restart rail services in far North Queensland by Sunday.

The line between Cairns and Townsville has been cut since the fatal crash at Mundoo near Innisfail where six people were also injured.
