NSW: Plan to confiscate cars of speeding P-platers

New South Wales Roads Minister MICHAEL DALEY says he'll consider carefully a proposal to confiscate cars from P-platers for three months .. if they're caught driving more than 20-kilometres an hour over the speed limit.
The head of the police traffic command .. Superintendent JOHN HARTLEY .. is championing the idea after two serious crashes involving the young drivers at the weekend .. one fatal.
Mr HARTLEY says tough measures introduced in 2006 .. including a curfew on P-platers .. haven't been enough to stop the road carnage involving inexperienced drivers.
Street racers can have their cars confiscated .. with police taking 300 vehicles off drivers last year.
Former premier MORRIS IEMMA also introduced measures allowing cars to be crushed .. although the government is yet to destroy any car.
