UK: Dr Who star takes to the stage as Hamlet

LONDON, Jan 5 AAP - Dr Who star David Tennant has returned to London's West End production of Hamlet for the final week of performances after recovering from a back injury.
Thousands of fans were left disappointed when Tennant was forced to pull out of the production last month to undergo surgery for a prolapsed disc.
His recovery was slow and the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) voiced doubts that he would return at all, but he performed on Saturday to a standing ovation.
Tennant hopes to appear at the Novello Theatre every night until the run ends on January 10, but an RSC spokesman said there were no guarantees.
"We will be assessing David's return to each Hamlet performance on a day-by-day basis, so patrons are being invited to check our website from 12 noon each day for an update for that evening's performance," the spokesman told Britain's The Daily Telegraph.
Tickets for the show sold out in less than two hours, leaving many disappointed when Tennant could not perform.
The lead role was filled by understudy Edward Bennett, who received creditable reviews.
