Fed: Demand for hybrid cars steadily growing

New figures show Australians are driving greener .. with sales of environmentally-friendly petrol-electric hybrid vehicles are steadily increasing.
The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries says five thousand and 42 hybrid cars were sold in 2008 .. up two per cent on the previous year .. but still only point-five per cent of total vehicle sales.
Toyota's Prius model posted the strongest sales growth of any hybrid vehicle on the local market .. with a record three thousand 413 sold in 2008 .. a rise of almost 7.5 per cent.
