The 78-year-old Victorian hoon caught allegedly speeding at 170 kilometres an hour on a narrow country road on New Year's Day belongs to a car club .. and told police he was a skilled race driver.
His car .. and a Nissan Skyline driven by a 36-year-old man .. were both impounded under the state's anti-hoon laws.
They were part of a small group from the Nissan Datsun Sports Owners Club participating in an organised New Year's Day drive from Hallam in Melbourne's southeast.
But club president KARYN HAMER-FINN says their behaviour was not only illegal .. but goes against the club's code of conduct .. and they'll be disciplined by its committee.
Both men paid 600 dollars to retrieve their vehicles from the Warragul impoundment on Monday .. and face fines and licence suspensions.
