MELBOURNE, Jan 7 AAP - A man has died after his van slammed into a tree in Melbourne's outer-east on Wednesday.
The van crashed into an embankment at Dixons Creek, on the Melba Highway, swerved across the road, smashed through a guard rail and struck a tree just before 10pm (AEDT), police said.
The driver, believed to be aged in his late 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The death brings Victoria's road toll to 10, one more than at the same time last year.
