NSW: Man shot in Rosemeadow brawl remanded in custody

SYDNEY, Jan 10 AAP - A man shot in the buttocks during a massive neighbourhood brawl in Sydney's south-west is to receive medical treatment for a mental health condition while in custody.
David Keith Whitmore, 30, was shot late on Monday night during a flare-up involving more than 100 people at a public housing estate at Rosemeadow.
He was charged on Friday with affray and also with malicious wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Another man was also shot during the brawl, while four other males were stabbed.
Two other members of Whitmore's family are among 15 males who have so far been arrested since Monday.
Whitmore, who is being held at Penrith Jail, did not appear via video link in Parramatta bail court on Saturday, but was represented by legal counsel.
The court heard that Whitmore suffers from a mental health problem and also needs medication to aid his recovery.
The case was adjourned to Liverpool Local Court on January 14.
Whitmore did not apply for bail, which was formally refused.
Whitmore's younger brothers John and Les appeared in Campbelltown Local Court on Friday in connection with the brawl.
John Whitmore, 26, was charged with two counts of malicious wounding with intent, while Les Whitmore, 23, faces the same charges plus two counts of affray.
Neither applied for bail, and it was formally refused.
John Whitmore's solicitor said his client maintained "he is the victim and he shouldn't be in custody".
Magistrate Michael Stoddart adjourned both men's matters to Liverpool Local Court on January 14.
