NT: Man charged after cannabis haul in Alice Springs

DARWIN, Jan 19 AAP - More than $100,000 worth of cannabis has been seized by police during a series of raids in Alice Springs.

The driver of a Ford Falcon sedan, travelling outbound along Larapinta Drive, was pulled over shortly after 2pm (CST) on Friday.

Police said a search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered 336.5 grams of cannabis in 12 bags, and $3,750 in cash.

The 47-year-old male driver was arrested and officers carried out raids on two properties in the town.

Almost 900 grams of cannabis and $12,000 in cash was allegedly discovered in an Undoolya Road unit while a search of an industrial premises in Smith Street uncovered 3.080 grams of cannabis and a .177 calibre air rifle.

Police estimate the combined cannabis haul was worth $107,000.

The driver was charged with possess cannabis commercial quantity, supply cannabis, possess tainted property, possess unregistered firearm, possess unlicensed firearm and fail to secure firearm.

He was refused bail and will appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court on Monday, police said.

Officers from the Drug Intelligence Unit, the Dog Operations Unit and the Substance Abuse Intelligence Desk were involved in raids.
