Specially-trained police officers have taken over security at NSW's Parliament House as part of an ASIO-recommended upgrade of the Macquarie Street building.
Findings of an ASIO security review commissioned by the state government in 2006 have sparked major changes including a new control room to monitor CCTV .. more extensive alarm systems .. and changes to security staffing.
Work on the security upgrade is set to continue with a new 750 thousand dollar gatehouse and screening facility to be built at the Macquarie Street entrance to the building .. along with improvements to CCTV cameras and exterior lighting.
