MELBOURNE, Jan 21 AAP - A driver has died after a plank of wood flew off another motorist's trailer and pierced the windscreen of his car.
The man suffered facial fractures and chest injuries and died in a Melbourne hospital shortly after the crash at Doncaster about 9am (AEDT) on Wednesday.
The plank went through the victim's windscreen after a four-wheel drive towing a trailer full of wood braked heavily in front of him at the intersection of Doncaster and Elgar roads.
Paramedics were already at the scene attending to another minor accident at the same location half an hour earlier.
A police spokesman said the man's name, age and further details were not available.
His death takes Victoria's road toll to 23, seven more than for the same time last year.
