SYDNEY, Jan 26 AAP - A police pursuit has ended with the arrests of four NSW youths suspected of involvement in a string of armed robberies.

Police in the Hunter region allege the four males - one aged 17, two 18, and the fourth 19 - forced their way into three news agencies at different locations, armed with machetes and bats.

Police later pursued the men, who were travelling in a stolen Holden Commodore.

After several unsuccessful attempts to stop them, road spikes at Barnsley deflated two of the car's tyres.

Officers continued the pursuit for a further 10km to Warners Bay, where the car collided at low speed with a police vehicle.

All four were arrested, with three taken to John Hunter Hospital for observation due to minor injuries sustained in the collision.

They were released and taken to Newcastle and Lake Macquarie police stations, where they are assisting police with inquiries.

No charges have yet been laid.

Investigations into other armed robberies in the area are continuing.
