SYDNEY, Feb 7 AAP - A man accused of pushing a female police officer into the path of oncoming traffic has been charged after being pulled over for drink driving.
A 36-year-old man became violent when police stopped his car to breath test him on King St, Newtown in Sydney's inner west about 11.30pm (AEDT) on Friday, police said.
Police confiscated keys to the man's black Holden Commodore and arrested him after he allegedly failed to comply with the random breath test.
"During the arrest, it is alleged he resisted and struggled with officers before pushing a female officer onto the road into the path of oncoming traffic," a NSW police statement said.
Police said two police officers received minor cuts and bruising after the man wrestled and kicked at police as he was being put in the van.
He has been charged with two counts of assaulting police and one count each of resisting arrest, failing to submit to a roadside breath test and High Range PCA.
He was granted conditional bail to appear at Newtown Local Court on March 3, 2009.
