EDS: Changes the properties to be acquired on updated information

SYDNEY, Feb 16 AAP - The NSW government is set to acquire about 30 properties along the proposed route of the $4.8 billion Sydney CBD metro rail line.

Transport Minister David Campbell said a project application had now been lodged for the train line with the Department of Planning, and community consultation on the metro would now begin.

Construction is set to start in 2010 on the metro rail line that will run through the CBD to east Darling Harbour, Pyrmont and then to Rozelle, in the city's inner west, by 2015.

"The CBD metro has become a very real part of Sydney's future and the people of Sydney can now provide their feedback," Mr Campbell said.

People who live in, or own businesses around, Pyrmont, Rozelle and the CBD will receive letters from the new authority, Sydney Metro.

Mr Campbell said it was estimated 30 properties would have to be acquired to build the line, but the total number would depend on final planning.

A spokesman for the minister later said those properties acquired would be zoned commercial.
