SYDNEY, Feb 19 AAP - The body of a man washed off a weir into Parramatta River during heavy rain has been found about a kilometre from where he went missing.
The 22-year-old was washed off the weir near the Parramatta Ferry Wharf in western Sydney early on Saturday, sparking a police search.
A NSW Maritime vessel patrolling Parramatta River about 8.30am (AEDT) on Wednesday found the body about 1.2km from the wharf, police said.
Police from the Marine Area Command were called to the location and recovered the man's body.
Although the body had not been formally identified, police believed it was the 22-year-old man they had been searching for.
The body was taken to Glebe Mortuary for a post-mortem examination. Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
Police previously said the man's girlfriend was talking to him on his mobile phone when he was washed into the river, and she immediately contacted police.
