NSW: Police dismiss reports of Rosemeadow brawl

SYDNEY, Feb 28 AAP - NSW police have dismissed reports of a brawl involving up to 50 people at a troubled Sydney housing estate, saying they found only a crowd watching a stoush between two "idiots".
Officers were called out to a reported melee involving up to 50 combatants in Malcolm Way at Rosemeadow in Sydney's southwest at 9.30pm (AEDT) on Friday, police said in a statement.
But Assistant Commissioner Frank Mennilli said the crowd was mostly standing around watching two men fighting and most of the onlookers left the scene when officers arrived.
"Unfortunately when people take alcohol ... they will act inappropriately and police respond to these situations," he told reporters.
"So it wasn't a riot. It wasn't a brawl. Just two idiots carrying on like idiots."
A 28-year-old man was charged with assaulting police, hindering police, resisting arrest and affray.
He was due to appear in Parramatta bail court on Saturday.
A 17-year-old male was charged with assaulting police, resisting arrest, using offensive language and affray.
The youth was also refused bail and was to appear in Parramatta Childrens Court on Saturday.
