QLD: Police confirm receipt of Hanson tape

BRISBANE, March 6 AAP - Queensland police are investigating new claims of electoral funding irregularities against Pauline Hanson.

The 54-year-old One Nation founder is contesting the Gold Coast hinterland seat of Beaudesert in the March 21 Queensland state election.

Asked on the Seven Network's Today Tonight program earlier this week why she had transferred around $100,000 in funds intended for a previous campaign from one account to another, she replied: "I'm not going to get into a debate with you over internal politics with the party.

"Everything is above board," she said.

Only Ms Hanson and a close friend could access the account.

Pressed on why she would need to access the $100,000 left over from the failed campaign, Ms Hanson showed increasing frustration.

"You can go and do your interview, because this is going over and over ... I'm tired of answering these questions," she said, walking away from the reporter.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman told AAP that Today Tonight had provided copies of the interview to officers investigating Ms Hanson.

"It would be inappropriate for the Queensland Police Service to comment on an ongoing investigation," the spokeswoman said.

Ms Hanson spent 11 weeks in jail in 2003 for electoral fraud before her conviction was overturned on appeal and she was released.
