US stocks extend gains after big rally

US stocks are marginally higher today after an explosive rally yesterday on expectations that the battered financial sector was beginning to show some signs of recovery.
The key Dow Jones Industrial Average index rose 2.07 points (0.03 per cent) to 6,928.56 as the market opened after rallies in Asia and Europe.
The tech-dominated Nasdaq climbed 2.67 points (0.20 per cent) to 1,360.95 while the broad-market Standard & Poor's 500 index added 2.50 points (0.35 per cent) to 722.10.
