The Liberals say they won't support the federal government's Emissions Trading System in its current form or on its current timetable.
The statement by party leader MALCOLM TURNBULL came at the party's 53rd Federal Council in Sydney yesterday .. where hundreds of Liberals had congregated in a show of support for their leader.
Mr TURNBULL described the ETS as poorly designed and warned it would damage the nation's export industries while doing nothing for the environment or the economy.
His comments drew almost immediate criticism from the government .. with Assistant Treasurer CHRIS BOWEN saying the government's still aiming at a 2010 rollout for the ETS.
