NSW: Missing girls placed in temporary care by social workers

Young sisters who fled their grandparents in the New South Wales Hunter region have been placed in temporary care .. after they reportedly spent days living under a bridge .. eating food scraps.

JESSICA and MONICA JUAREZ .. aged 12 and nine .. disappeared from a fast food restaurant at Singleton on Saturday.

They'd been in the care of their maternal grandmother .. and were due to be handed over to their father's parents.

Police say the children were found in the grandmother's street .. and they don't know the truth of media reports the pair lived on food scraps and stole sheets off a line to keep warm at night.

Police say the girls have been placed in temporary care with the agreement of both sets of grandparents.
