SYDNEY, March 25 AAP - A man is fighting for his life in hospital after being shot in the chest in a drive-by shooting outside at a home in Sydney's northwest.
The 39-year-old man was shot twice, once in the chest and once in the buttock, outside a home on Sanctuary Drive, Beaumont Hills about 9.20pm (AEDT) on Wednesday, police said.
He has been rushed to Westmead Hospital where he is in a critical condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.
"He is scheduled to go into theatre," the spokeswoman told AAP.
"State Crime Command detectives have been notified about the incident, however, preliminary inquiries suggest the shooting is not linked to outlaw motorcycle gangs," a NSW police statement said.
"Police were called to the street after reports of a drive-by shooting," a police spokesman told AAP.
No one else was injured in the shooting and a crime scene was established by police.
Police are interviewing residents and specialist forensics officers will comb the area for evidence.
Officers said the offender or offenders left the area in a car, but no description of suspects or vehicles has been released.
The shooting is not believed to be bikie-related.
