NT: Police shoot man in chest after Taser miss

DARWIN, March 28 AAP - An Alice Springs man has been shot in the arm and chest by Northern Territory police, after they failed to subdue him with a Taser.
Police were called to a house in Bloomfield St, Alice Springs, at 9.30pm (CST) on Friday after receiving reports of a disturbance at the home.
When officers arrived they found the 33-year-old at the back of the home, armed with a knife, police said.
Police called on him to drop his weapon, but when he failed to do so, one of the officers tried to shoot him with a Taser but missed.
The thief then lunged at the police, with one officer shooting the man in the arm and chest.
The 33-year-old was taken to Alice Springs Hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition under police guard.
The residents of the Bloomfield St home were not in the house at the time of the shooting.
"An investigation is currently underway by members of the Alice Springs Regional Investigations Division with assistance from members of the Major Crime Unit," police said in a statement.
"Members of the Ethical and Professional Standards Command will oversight the investigation."
