LONDON, April 1 AFP - British police seized an armoured car, at least one police uniform and arrested eight people on Wednesday as thousands of protesters gathered in London ahead of the G20 summit, a spokesman said.

Officers stopped what is believed to be a renovated armoured personnel carrier on Bishopsgate, adjacent to the British capital's financial district where protesters have gathered, said a Metropolitan Police spokesman.

"Out of that stop, eight people were arrested for being in possession of a police uniform," the spokesman said, without specifying how many uniforms were seized.

Police estimate that between three and four thousand people have gathered outside the Bank of England in central London for the protests.
