NSW: Residents evacuated as units go up in smoke

SYDNEY, April 13 AAP - Four people, including a police officer, have been treated for smoke inhalation after a fire at a unit block in inner Sydney.
Emergency services were called to the four-storey building on Foveaux Street at Surry Hills just after 4am (AEST) on Monday over reports of a unit on fire.
About 20 residents were evacuated as firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control.
One female resident and a female police officer were taken to St Vincent's Hospital with smoke inhalation, while another two residents were treated at the scene.
The apartments were extensively damaged by water and smoke.
An investigation into the cause of the blaze is under way.
Foveaux St has been closed west of Riley Street while emergency services continue mopping up.
Traffic diversions are in place and motorists are urged to take care in the area.
