Thailand's government says it'll extend a three-day local New Year holiday for two more days after protesters abandoned violent demonstrations.
A government spokesman says the extra days .. which give Thais 10 days off in a row over the Songkran festival .. will ensure a safe clean-up of the capital.
But the Thai stock market and banks announced they would open.
Protesters calling for the resignation of Prime Minister ABHISIT VEJJAJIVA caved in to the threat of a military operation yesterday .. ending a three-week siege of his offices.
