UK: British scientist Hawking 'very ill' in hospital: university

Cambridge University says British scientist STEPHEN HAWKING .. the author of A Brief History Of Time .. is very ill in hospital.
The 67-year-old has achieved international fame .. despite being wheelchair-bound because of motor neurone disease .. and having to communicate through a voice synthesiser.
A spokesman for the university says the professor is very ill .. and that he'd been taken to hospital in the city by ambulance.
HAWKING is Lucasian professor of mathematics at Cambridge.
Although he has been in the job since 1979 .. HAWKING became an international figure through his best-selling 1988 book on cosmology .. A Brief History Of Time .. which examines complex concepts like the Big Bang and black holes.
