SYDNEY, April 21 AAP - Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has washed his hands of responsibility by claiming a recession is inevitable because of overseas influences, Opposition Leader Malcolm Turnbull says.
Mr Rudd's real problem was that his $23 billion stimulus package had failed and he had no other plan for recovery, Mr Turnbull said on Tuesday.
"He now says a recession is inevitable," Mr Turnbull told reporters in Sydney.
"He has washed his hands of responsibility but he has put an enormous debt on the shoulder of our children and their children."
Mr Turnbull was not against the possibility of a third round stimulus package but "everything depends upon how money is spent".
He said the F3 freeway link in the NSW Lower Hunter as well as Gladstone Airport and a rail link in Mackay were much-needed infrastructure projects that could help boost the economy.
