NSW: Man charged after running away from fatal crash scene

SYDNEY, April 25 AAP - A man has been charged after allegedly running away from the scene of a fatal car crash.
Police said a woman died after she was hit by a Holden Commodore station wagon as she was getting out of her car on the Old Pacific Highway at Berowra, in Sydney's north, about 12.40pm (AEST) on Friday.
A police officer performed cardio-pulmonary resuscitation on the woman, who was seriously injured and unconscious, until ambulance personnel arrived.
The 52-year-old Thornleigh woman suffered serious leg and internal injuries.
She was airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital where she later died.
Police said the Commodore driver ran off into the bush at Berowra and residents called police after seeing a man in their backyard.
A 23-year-old Swansea man has been charged with negligent driving occasioning death, failing to stop and assist after his vehicle impacted and caused death, driving unlicensed and driving an unregistered vehicle.
He has been refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Saturday.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
