Fed: Six new confirmed cases of swine flu in NSW

SYDNEY, May 30 AAP - There are six new confirmed cases of swine flu in NSW, health authorities say.

NSW chief health officer Dr Kerry Chant said as of Saturday morning, 54 people had tested positive, with 43 cases who had been on the cruise Pacific Dawn when it docked in Sydney on Monday and 11 cases of people who picked up the virus on overseas travel.

The number of confirmed cases has risen by six, from Friday's figure of 48.

One of the infected people in the overseas travellers group had not been in an affected country, Dr Chant said.

"They came in through India and I think that just reflects that the widespread nature of the disease, particularly overseas, means that we are going to see increasing new reports of travellers returning with human swine influenza," she told reporters in Sydney.

She said more tests were being processed on Saturday.
