PAC: NZ conman who fled to Australia jailed

A New Zealand financial adviser who fled to Australia after ripping off nearly 80 thousand dollars from five victims .. has been jailed for two and a half years.
WILLIAM PAUL BENNETT fled Nelson in 2000 .. and was the subject of a police hunt in Australia the following year .. after abducting his daughter .. who was on a visit from Nelson with her mother.
The girl was found after a five-month search .. but BENNETT wasn't charged because there was no custody order.
The Nelson Mail says BENNETT was subsequently jailed for three and a half years in Australia .. on charges of aggravated burglary .. false imprisonment .. causing injury and threatening to kill.
He returned to New Zealand in 2007.
