Vic: Calls for "evil" branch stacking to be wiped out

Delegates at the ALP state conference in Melbourne have agreed to tackle abuses in signing up new party members .. but have stopped short of voting to expel people recruited during branch stacking drives.
The party's left and right factions have instead formed a membership renewal and audit committee .. which will investigate membership rorts and report back to the party in October.
The decision came after JOHN LANNAN from the Flinders branch told the highly charged conference .. branch stacking is a cancer and an embarrassment to the party .. and must be stamped out now.
The conference was the first mass meeting of ALP members since an explosive ombudsman's report exposed corruption .. and high level political interference at the Labor-dominated Brimbank council.
