NSW: One dead, two serious after western Sydney shootout

SYDNEY, June 26 AAP - A man has been arrested following a gunfight in Sydney's southwest that killed a man and left two others injured.

Police were called to a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant at the corner of Milperra Rd and Henry Lawson Drive, Milperra, after shooting broke out about 10.40pm on Thursday.

Officers attempted to stop a vehicle leaving the carpark and arrested the driver after he pulled over following a short chase.

Police say one male was shot in the chest and another in the stomach in the restaurant carpark and both had been rushed to western Sydney hospitals in serious conditions.

Several hundred metres away they found the dead man, shot through the head, in the cab of a commercial B-double truck.

A police spokesman at the scene said officers were still searching for clues as to how the truck driver was killed and his connection to those involved in the carpark shooting.

Police were asked if the shootings were gang related but the spokesman said it was too early to speculate.

Both roads, major western suburbs arteries, are closed and expected to remain closed for some hours, possibly affecting Friday morning's peak hour traffic.
