Fed: US could ask for increased committment in Afghanistan

Australia could be asked to increase its commitment in Afghanistan again .. after a top Pentagon official warned the situation is serious.
Fairfax reports that Australia could be asked to provide more trainers for the police and the Afghan army .. after a review of United States strategy due to be released in a fortnight.
WALLACE "CHIP" GREGSON .. the Pentagon's top Asia official .. says success in Afghanistan will require detailed civil and military integration.
He says the Pentagon is expecting to hear from General STANLEY MCCRYSTAL .. the new commander in the field .. and he could ask for additional resources if he thinks he needs it.
Australia increased its troop commitment in Afghanistan by 450 in April to 1550.
General MCCRYSTAL'S report is due on August 12.
