SYDNEY, Sept 11 AAP - Three tourists from Los Angeles will attempt to tweet about their adventures once every minute - or 4320 times - during a 72-hour stay in Sydney.

The stunt is part of a Tourism NSW campaign, dubbed 4320:SYD, aimed at promoting the harbour city via social networking website, Twitter.

The trio, who arrived from the US on Thursday, will visit OceanWorld and Taronga Zoo, climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge and sing karaoke in China Town.

Rob Blasko, 26, Jade Broadus, 25, and Bobby Christian, 24, will also get to dine in some of the city's best restaurants, and try an Aussie meat pie from the famous Harry's Cafe de Wheels.

NSW tourism minister Jodi McKay said the campaign had already been a huge success, with its website clocking up 7 million hits in one month.

The tweeting travellers were chosen for the task after entering a competition in Los Angeles, an important market for the NSW tourism industry.

"We've had a positive response to the competition with young Americans lining up for the challenge to put their tweeting skills to the test and experience the best of what Sydney has to offer," Ms McKay said.

The 4320:SYD campaign is the first in a series that will run until the end of next year.

Last year, about 2.7 million international visitors stayed more than 60 nights in NSW, injecting more than $5.8 billion into the state's economy, Ms McKay said.
