US stocks jump on earnings boost

US stocks have jumped on a profit surge by top firms Intel and JP Morgan Chase .. and a lesser than expected fall in retail sales.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 81.62 points .. or 0.83 per cent .. in opening trades to 9,952.68 .. approaching the key 10,000 level.
The Nasdaq composite rose 19.16 points .. or 0.90 per cent .. to 2,159.05 and the broad-market Standard & Poor's 500 index added 10.24 points .. or 0.95 per cent .. to 1,083.43.
