Police officer charged over alleged teen sex assault

SYDNEY, Nov 16 AAP - A 40-year-old NSW police officer has been charged after allegedly indecently assaulting a teenage girl while on duty in the Hunter Valley.
The officer, attached to the northern region of the force, was arrested at Maitland police station at 4.50pm (AEDT) on Monday.
Police allege that he assaulted the 16-year-old in Tarro, near Maitland, just over a week ago.
Sex Crimes Squad detectives have since charged the man with three counts of aggravated sexual assault and one count of an aggravated act of indecency.
"The charges relate to allegations that a 16-year-old girl was indecently assaulted by the man at a location at Tarro, about 2.30pm on Sunday 8 November this year," police said in a statement.
"It will be alleged the man was on-duty at the time of the incident.
"Following investigations, the officer has since been suspended from duty."
The officer was granted conditional bail to appear at Maitland Local Court on December 14.
